A Developmental Coach can help with Sensory Overload
It is estimated that between 50 and 70% of children with autism have difficulty with sensory processing. Sensory processing involves the ability to take in and interpret the information that is occurring within our environment. For example, processing touch and movement.
Children with autism often have over-reactive sensory systems, where their bodies are taking in or processing too much information from the environment. This can lead to the child feeling overwhelmed and over-stimulated. Pediatric occupational therapists have a thorough understanding of the sensory system and how sensory difficulties can affect participation in important activities, such as sleep, dressing, bathing, and eating. A Developmental Coach can recommend modifications to these activities, such as making modifications to the child’s bedroom environment to ensure sufficient sleep.
Based on the evidence-based program that we have been providing for over a decade. Every child benefits from Developmental Therapy by overcoming delays and barriers that prevent them from reaching their full potential. The goals for the child are determined by an evaluation assessment and input from the caregiver. These goals can range from learning to deal with social situations to increasing fine motor skills to so much more. Therapeutic play activities can include songs, building figures, matching items, manipulating objects, games, and more, all while incorporating the child’s needs along the way. Developmental Therapy is a fun way to connect with your child, help him/her with areas where they may have developmental delays, and establish a better foundation for your child and your family. 10

Parents who read one picture book with their child everyday will expose their child to approximately 78,000 different words each year. From birth to kindergarten those children will have been exposed to 1.4 million more words than children who are not exposed to books. It is a fact that reading to your child will directly impact their future language skills and academic success.
